St. Antony of Padua was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1195. From an early age, he showed a deep desire for prayer, study, and devotion to God. He joined the Augustinian order but was later drawn to the Franciscans, inspired by the martyrs of Morocco who had died for their faith.
